My Son, is the ancient grounds for Hindu worship of the Champa Kingdom, the first civilisation to settle in Vietnam. This highly refined civilisation invented the irrigation system still used in rice farms today. As well as being very good at agriculture and successful as pirates, they were amazing builders. Over 70 temples once spread across My Son, the Holyland, dating back between the 4th and 14th centuries. Today, all of what we know about this long and prosperous civilization is from these intricately carved and depicted Hindu temples exteriors. Although much of the cites temples have been destroyed in battle and most recently carpet bombing by the American army, the majority of the temple sites in the centre of the complex have survived and are being preserved by UNSECO. You’ll have the chance to walk the ground where over 20 temples remain intact, with intricate carving and sculptures to see. Followed by a boat trip upriver to visit a few villages, inlcuding the Kim Bong Village, where the tradition of carpentry has been passed down through the generations and still remains today.
