Mandalay was the royal capital of Myanmar and it is still heart of Burmese culture today. Mandalay Hill is the best place to introduce you to Mandalay city, to catch a glimpse in the morning or enjoy sun set, before or after your day touring. Our tourguide will pick you up from your hotel then start walking to the top of Mandalay Hill, which rises 240 metres above the city. Get orientated with the city’s layout while enjoying views of the surrounding countryside, Irrawaddy River and city centre.
Then return to the base of the hill for a visit to the fascinating sites found in the northern part of the city. Visit Kyauk Taw Gyi Pagoda, to admire its huge marble Buddha image. Hear the fascinating tale of how it was built, requiring 10,000 men to transfer the marble rock to its present location. Finally visit Kuthodaw Pagoda. Walk through the tranquil grounds where more than 700 marble slabs are inscribed with Buddhist teachings, thus earning it the nickname ‘The World’s Largest Book’.
