Fighting Cocks Islet
In addition to the majestic cave system, Halong Bay also attracts travelers due to it thousands of islands and islets in diverse shapes and sizes. It is estimated that around 980 out of 2,000 islands and islets were named. Interestingly, most of them were named after its shapes. When it comes to the most iconic islets in Halong Bay, locals often think about Fighting Cock Islet – a symbol of Halong Bay.
Fighting Cock Islet or Trong Mai Islet is situated on the south-west side of Halong Bay, 5km from the tourist wharf near to Dinh Huong Islet. The islet looks like a pair of Cock & Hen in the sea. In a somewhat large expanse of open sea, the island seems to grow up from the bottom of the deep emerald waters. At sunset, the island with the height of over 10 m is bright red and in a somewhat tottery position. Their tiny legs support heavy bodies, and it appears that one strong wave could throw the two stone blocks into the sea. However, hundreds of millions of years have passed, and the islet is still there.
Rising from the emerald water, Fighting Cocks Islet has stood there thousands years ago. The islet is made symbol of not only Halong Bay but also Vietnam tourism. Hence, it has become the creative inspiration for photographers, painters, and artists.
